About the Academic Support Library

The materials and methodology presented on this website provide support to international students in ways that respect the worth and dignity of work done in foreign classrooms to educate students before they come to America. Every student arrives with a knowledge of concepts, processes and complex ideas that he or she has learned, but is not yet able to communicate in English. The online tools created and presented through the Academic Support Library allow international students to honor the academic work that is their foundation by learning American curricula bilingually. This method builds English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, while keeping the students on pace.

The materials on this website and the tutoring methodology used in our individual tutoring and small group classes were developed by a tutor with over 35 years of experience working with high school and college students. In working with international students, traditional tutoring methods proved to be too time consuming to keep students on pace. Students were faced with the challenge of acquiring basic English and acquiring academic English simultaneously. Students often did not understand what was expected of them to succeed in their classes, or what was required to complete any given assignment acceptably.

Materials for courses that are required for graduation in Florida are available through this website, and are excellent courses for international students to complete either prior to entering American classrooms, or to augment a traditional classroom schedule.
